Agricultural Research Station, Tornala, Siddipet celebrated World Soil Day by conducting an awareness programme on “Soil and Water: a Source of life” on 05-12-2023 to the students of Model School, Irkode, Siddipet duly involving the students of Agriculture Polytechnic, Tornala. At the outset the views and ideas students on the importance and management of soil were obtained through interaction. Drawing and Essay writing competitions were also conducted to the students on the theme of World Soil Day 2023. Dr. S. Sridevi, PS (SSAC) and Head, ARS, Tornala in her opening remarks has explained about World Soil Day – 2023 and its theme. She has also explained about different sustainable management practices for soil management. Sri J.Vijay, Coordinator, DAATTC, Tornala has described the role of crops and cropping systems on soil health. Different nutrient management practices for sustaining soil health was enlightened by Dr. T.Srijaya, PS (SSAC), ARS, Tornala. Excess pesticide usage and it’s influence on soil health was discussed by Dr. A.Rama Devi, Scientist, ARS, Tornala. Water management and its role on sustainable soil management was delivered by Dr. A.Swetha, Scientist, ARS, Tornala.

The programme was also attended by the staff of Deshpande foundation, an NGO operating in Siddipet. Ms Sarvani, the Project manager, has interacted with the group and discussed about the various challenges faced by farmers to obtain the sustainable yields. Nearly 135 students from APT, Tornala, TS Model school, Irkode along with the field staff of Deshpande foundation took part in the programme. Prizes were distributed the students who participated in drawing and essay writing competitions. All the staff of ARS, DAATTC and APT, Tornala, took part in the programme.
