Palampur 12 October. Dr D.K.Vatsa, Vice Chancellor inaugurated a day-long business meet and training on ‘Recent aspects of Agriculture for the NABARD officers’ at CSK H.P. Agriculture University, here today.

The Vice Chancellor underlined the importance of modern farm technology in enhancing income of the farmers. He said that ever increasing population is to be provided quality food so it cannot be neglected. He said it is necessary that new technology reaches farmers’ field quickly.

The new generation of farmers should be attracted towards newly developed farm knowledge and technology so that they are engaged to agriculture. The young farmers should be trained to become successful farm entrepreneurs. He discussed agricultural implements like power tillar, tractors, drones, etc which can be operated through mobiles or with remote control. The University has successfully introduced power tillars in Himachal Pradesh. He said that University needs funding through different research projects on farm problems.

Dr Vivek Pathania, General Manager NABARD told that since technology is to be replicated in the field so it is important to reskill and update knowledge of field officers of his bank. He also expressed the need to collaborate with the University for propagating new technology like drones, processing machinery for millets, agri startups, etc which are applicable in farmers’ field.

The experts spoke on the ‘Potential of backyard poultry for enhancement of livelihood of farming community’, ‘importance and health benefits of millets and their value added products’ and ‘scope and importance of drone technology in agriculture and its benefits to hill farmers through custom hiring centres.’

The trainees visited hydroponic cultivation, milk processing unit, natural farming experimental farm, etc. in the University and interacted with scientists.

Dr Rajesh Uppal, Associate Director Extension Education, Manohar Lal, Deputy General Manager and Dr Lav Bhushan also addressed the trainee officers from all over the State.

Dr Ashok Panda, Dr Ranjna Verma, Dr Hirday Paul Singh, Dr Varun Sankhyan and Er Ashish Dhiman were present during inaugural ceremony.
