ICAR – Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology, Ludhiana and Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak entered into an agreement to collaborate in the area of Academics, Research and Outreach. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director, ICAR – CIPHET, Ludhiana and Dr. Gulshan Lal Taneja, Registrar, MDU, Rohtak in a ceremony held on May 18, 2023 at MDU, Rohtak. The function was chaired by Dr. Rajveer Singh, Hon. Vice Chancellor, MDU, Rohtak. All the Deans of the university were also present on this occasion. It was felt that the agreement will pave ways for training and dissertation of the university students, collaborative research projects and exchange of experts in various outreach programs conducted by both the institutions in areas of food processing and other frontiers of mutual interest. The program was facilitated by Dr. KK Sharma and Dr. Rajeev from Department of Microbiology, MDU, Rohtak and Mrs. Surya and Dr. Dhritiman Saha from ICAR – CIPHET, Ludhiana.A successful two-day post-harvest management training was conducted for 15 women beneficiaries from the villages of Dhiwan, Bhotna, Sekha, and Kotdhuna in the Sehna and Barnala Blocks of Barnala District. The training was a collaborative effort between Grant Thornton Bharat, HDFC Parivartan Project, and ICAR-CIPHET. The program aimed to enhance the income of rural women by improving their skills and allied activities as part of local economic development across four districts in Punjab, namely Barnala, Moga, Rupnagar, and Ludhiana. The training covered various processing methods for agricultural commodities such as mustard oil extraction, millet processing, and bakery product manufacturing. The beneficiaries, who previously had experience in conventional practices for pickle and papad making, gained knowledge in new segments of post-harvest product manufacturing according to contemporary market and consumer demands. The training also opened up opportunities for them to establish common facility centers in their respective clusters and turn their skills into profitable businesses. ABI team comprises of Dr. Ranjeet Singh, Dr. Renu Balakrishna & Dr. Vikas Kumar facilitated the event. Dr. Sandeep Mann, I/c Director awarded certificates to the participants on successful completion of training in the presence of Mr. Manpreet Singh, Manager (PSC) and entire team of M/s Grant Thornton, Chandigarh.
