  • After the devastating flood due to breach in the embankment of Kosi River, the Rajendra Agricultural University took an initiative to restore the agricultural activities in the flood affected zone. A two tier committee was constituted to collect soil samples and assessment of possibility for growing crops in different soil situations of six districts namely Suapul, Madhepura, Saharsa, Purnia, Araria and Katihar those were severely affected by Kosi flood.
  • Value addition in Quality Protein Maize (QPM) based food products and market chain management. Maize is a major cereal crop for both human and livestock nutrition, worldwide. With its high content of carbohydrates, fats, proteins and some of important vitamins and minerals, maize acquired a well deserved reputation as a poor man’s nutria-cereal.
  • Achieving livelihood through indigenization and popularisation of vermicompost production at farmers courtyard. Organic, inorganic fertilizers and microbial biomass are the main resource for building up soil fertility. In investigation area huge potential of organic residues are lying untapped.
  • Boosting rural economy through mushroom production by household women. Malpur is a Tola of Morsand village under Pusa block of Samastipur. Major population in Malpur is schedule caste landless labourers. They have insufficient employment opportunities, poor skills and migration of rural youth are among major issues to be addressed in the area.
  • Spreading use of HYV and enhancing SRR through Farmers’ Participatory Seed Production Programme (FPSPP). Seed is a basic input in agriculture. Use of quality seeds alone can enhance the crop productivity by 15-25%. One of the main reasons for low productivity in the Bihar State is very low seed replacement rate (SRR).
  • Contingent plan for drought affected areas of Bihar State.
