With the advocacy of ministries, a week-long awareness campaign was organized in Dr Rajendra Prasad Central Agriculture University through Centre for Advance Studies on Climate Change and other departments from 22nd to 28th May, 2023 for “Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment)” with theme “Climate Resilient and Smart Agriculture” patronized by Dr. P.S. Pandey, Honorable Vice-Chancellor, RPCAU, Pusa, about transition to sustainable life styles leading to sustainable consumption and production in agriculture sector. The brief highlights of the programme have been discussed below.

Dr. K. M. Singh (Dean, PGCA, RPCAU), Dr. A.K. Singh (Director research, RPCAU), Dr.M.S. Kundu ( Director Extension Education) acted as the convenor of the programme. Dr. S.K.Singh (Associate Director Reasearch, RPCAU) and Dr. Ratnesh Kumar Jha(Project Director, Centre for Advance Studies on Climate Change) took their role as the co-convener of the programme.

Dr. Jitendra Prasad (Deputy Director, Extension, RPCAU) and Dr. Anupama Kumari (Deputy Director, Extension Education, RPCAU) were functioning as Organizing Secretaries for 1st day. For 2nd day Dr. Abdus Sattar (Associate Professor, Agrometeorology, CASCC, RPCAU, Pusa); for 3rd day, Dr. Shankar Jha (Asst. Professor, Soil Science) acted as the Organizing Secretary. Heads of KVKs were the Organizing Secretary for 4th and 5th day. Dr. Pushpa Singh (Professor, Entomology, RPCAU ) became the Organizing Secretary for 6th day. For 7th day, Dr.
Sweta Mishra (Head, Plant Breeding, RPCAU) acted as the Organizing Secretary.

Tiwari (Head, KVK Birauli), Dr. Shailesh Kumar (Asst. Profesor, Plant Physiology), Er. Anupam Amitabh ( Asst. Professor, SRI), Dr. S.S. Prasad(Asst. Professor, Soil Science, TCA, Dholi), Dr. Mahesh Kumar(Asst. Professor, Statistics), Dr. S.P. Singh (Asst. Professor, Soil Science), Dr. Kaushal Kishor (Asst. Professor, PGCA) Dr. R. K. Tiwari (Head, KVK Birauli) Dr. S.P. Singh(Asst. Professor, Soil Science), Mahesh Kumar (Asst. Professor, Statistics), Asst Comptroller, DoR were the members for Local Purchase Committee. For Food Committee, the members were Dr. Jitendra Prasad (O/I, ATIC),Dr. Kaushal Kishore (Asst. Professor, PGCA), Dr. Meenakshi Diwedy (Asst. Prof., PGCA), Dr. Aman Tigga (Asst. Prof, PGCA), Dr. G. S. Giri (Asst. Prof, Entomology), Er. Anupam Amitabh ( Asst. Professor, SRI).

The 1st day (22.05.2023) of the programme initiated with inaugural function and an opening lecture by Dr. Ratnesh Kumar Jha, Project Director, Centre for Advance Studies on Climate Change on backdrop of Climate Resilient Agriculture and Climate Smart Agriculture programme and its importance in mitigating climatic risks for enhancing farm production succeeded by Dr. Jitendra Prasad, Deputy Director, Extension Education, Dr. R.K. Tiwari, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Birauli and Mr. Ashish Srivastava, and Mr. Raghuraj Singh from National Seeds Corporation. The meeting was represented by more than 100 farmers and Farmers Producers Companies and an interaction programme was organized on “Contingent as well as Climate Resilient seed Production” Also, future challenges of climate change in agriculture along with a short Question-Answer session was organized to make the farmers and FPOs aware about the Smart and Resilient Agriculture.

A National Seminar on “Climate-smart Practices for agricultural sustainability & enhanced farmers’ income” was executed in hybrid mode as a second day event on 23.05.2023 after a formal inauguration at Vidyapati Sabhagar by Dr. P.S. Pandey, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, RPCAU, Pusa , Dr. A.K.Singh, Director Research, RPCAU, Dr. Mrityunjay Kumar, Registrar, RPCAU, Dr. K.K. Singh , President, Association of Agrometeorologists and Dr.Abdus Sattar. The key-experts who delivered lectures were Dr. N. Subash (Principal Scientist, Agromet. & Head , Div. of Agril Physics, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi), Dr. Samsul Huda (Senior Agro climatologist/Modeller, School of Science, Western Sydney University,Australia) and Dr. K.K. Singh (President, Association of Agrometeorologists & Ex-Head, AASD, IMD, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India, New Delhi. Honourable ViceChancellor, RPCAU, Pusa graced the occasion and led the whole team through his precious discourse about climatic impacts on agriculture and the possible remedies for a better human existence. Dr. A. K. Singh, Director Research, RPCAU, Pusa also drove a spark of motivation to work hand in hand for meeting the climatic stress. All the scientists, students and the research scholars of the university were the keen participants of this interaction.

The most important lectures included were “Climatic Risk Assessment and Management for Smart Agriculture”, “Smart Agricultural Production Practices for Sustainable Environment” and “Enhanced Farm Production and Weather Forecasting and Climate Smart Practices for Agricultural Sustainability”. About 200 participants got benefited through online and offline mode.

The programme progressed towards third day event on 24.05.2023 which began with a key lecture on “CRA programme: A solution for risk reduction in agriculture” by Dr. Ratnesh Kumar Jha, Project Director, CASCC and convener of the event in a nearby village Ladaura of Kalyanpur Block, Samastipur. Dr. Abdus Sattar, Associate Professor, Agrometeorology interacted with the farmers and told about the importance of weather forecasting on decision making in agricultural operation. He also added “University research programme for risk management in agriculture”.

On 4th Day, a Travelling Seminar on Climate Change, Climate Smart Agriculture and Climate Resilient Agriculture was organized in all the KVKs of Dr. RPCAU Pusa in which farmers from nearby villages visited the CRA villages and get acquainted with the technologies being adopted by the participating farmers.
