The Department of Soil, Sciences, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), celebrated World Soil Day in association with the trainees of Centre for Advance Faculty Training (CAFT).

Dr DK Benbi, Former National Professor and Honorary Scientist, Department of Soil Science, who was the chief guest, stressed upon sequestering soil carbon and keeping the soil healthy for sustaining the crop productivity over long run.

The guest of honor Dr GPS Sodhi, Director of Extension Education, emphasized on in-situ crop residue management for making the environment clean and recycling the nutrients back into the soil.

Dr Dhanwinder Singh, Head of the department, highlighted the importance of celebrating World Soil Day and advised the faculty as well as the trainees and students to promote the need of preserving the nature’s precious resource. i.e. soil.

Earlier, Dr Rajeev Sikka, Principal Soil Chemist, welcomed the chief guest and conducted a quiz competition for CAFT trainees and Ph.D students. Later, he proposed a vote of thanks. The winners of the quiz competition were awarded trophies on the occasion.
