Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, under the guidance of Punjab Agricultural University and ICAR, ATARI, Zone-1, Ludhiana, organised a vocational training programme on “Mushroom Cultivation and Processing” from December 1st to 7th, 2023.

Under the guidance of Dr Arti Verma, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) at KVK, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, participants delved into a diverse range of topics. Dr Verma expounded on the immense prospects of mushroom cultivation, shedding light on the nutritional value of mushrooms, varied cultivation practices, pest and disease management, transportation logistics, marketing strategies, and the economic aspects of mushroom cultivation. The course offered hands-on practical sessions, allowing participants to engage in compost preparation for growing button mushrooms and the creation of casing soil.

Dr Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training) at KVK, emphasized the practical application of the knowledge and skills acquired during the training. He encouraged the trainees to integrate these newfound insights into their ventures and assured ongoing support for their future endeavors.

The culminating day of the training featured an exposure visit for the participants to the Mushroom unit belonging to Sh Parmod Kumar, a progressive mushroom grower in the village Sanawa. This practical exposure provided a real-world glimpse into successful mushroom cultivation practices, further enriching the participants’ learning experience.
