The School of Business Studies (SBS), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organized an Orientation Programme for B.Sc. (Hons.) Agribusiness Management students (2023-26 batch) on September 05, 2023 with the purpose of welcoming and familiarizing the newly admitted students with the academic program, field and lab work, rules and regulations, and para-academic endeavors of the School.

Quoting Lousia May Alcott, an American novelist, “I make so many beginnings there will never be an end”, Dr Ramandeep Singh, Professor-cum-Director, SBS, PAU, gave a resounding call to the students to be innovative, zealous, to think out-of-the-box, and aim high with a futuristic vision. He informed the students about the various endeavors of PAU, like lab-to-land programme, Society for Advancement of Academics, Sports and Cultural Activities (SAASCA), and Management Science Association (MSA). Urging the students to never forego their traditional roots, he spoke of the importance of grasping all knowledge and wisdom handed down over generations. “It is this wisdom of the ages that keeps us grounded and connected to our roots”, he added. A firm believer of enhancing the know-how through a well-organized environment of co-learning, Dr Ramadeep Singh encouraged the students to erase all barriers and divides, and cherish the idea of team-based learning. He also sensitized the students about the importance of having a high emotional quotient which helps one to forge strong relationships for healthy community living. He also exhorted the students towards making a sizeable societal contribution, thereby, becoming responsible and awakened in the true sense of the term.

The students were acquainted with the SBS faculty that has earned recognition on account of their multifarious skills in diverse fields. They were also enlightened about Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), about agriculture branching out to agribusiness and how PAU Agripreneurship have been instrumental in promoting local brands. Students were motivated to sustain the element of curiosity, ask intelligent questions, take agribusiness to new heights by encapsulating Agripreneurship in their veins; with faculty generously sharing their own life lessons with the students.

In order to assure students about the quality of education of the institution and aligning them with the kind of opportunities they might have after they complete their degree, Ms. Shivani, an alumna of the School and presently working with ‘Trident Group’, motivated the students by sharing her own journey and the opportune campus placement system of PAU. She urged the students to dwell on the importance of extra-curricular activities too, apart from focusing on their academics.

Professors Dr Gagandeep Banga and Dr Mohit Gupta shared semester rules with the students; while Dr Sandeep Kapur dilated upon the need to develop a charismatic personality. Professors Dr Babita Kumar and Dr Khushdeep Dharni discussed nuances of research, and placement activities in PAU respectively; also Dr Babita Kumar along with Dr Rakesh Rathore, Assistant Professor, initiated the students about MSA and LMA activities. The details about SAASCA activities and anti-ragging rules were shared by Dr Sukhmani, Assistant Professor, SBS. Professors, Dr Navdeep Aggarwal and Dr LM Kathuria discussed details about summer training activities and infrastructure at PAU and SBS respectively. Dr Ramandeep Singh in the capacity of President, Sports Committee of CoBS&H, and Dr Sukhbir Singh, Secretary, Sports, enlightened students about the various sports activities in PAU. The Orientation Programme of SBS, PAU, a day packed with learning and inducting activities full of learning ended with tea and refreshments and a group photograph.
