As part of the ongoing Praali parbandhan chetna yatra campaign against burning of paddy residue, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Langroya, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar conducted an awareness programme for mobilization of college students at K.C. College, Nawanshahr on 17th October, 2023.

During this programme, Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director, KVK, Langroya, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar gave a brief overview of the activities of KVK in his address. He informed about the harmful effects of burning of crop residue burning and also informed about the various nutrients available in the paddy residue and their importance for the soil health. Dr. Bons discussed in detail about the recommended paddy residue management technologies. He also informed that management of paddy residue is of utmost importance at this moment and stressed upon the proactive role to be played by college students in spreading this message.

For seeking active participation of the students in this initiative of utmost importance, KVK Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar conducted declamation, essay writing and painting competition for the school students for sensitization regarding the harmful effects of paddy residue burning. The various competitions were conducted under the guidance of scientists from KVK- Dr. Kirandeep, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering), Dr. Arti Verma, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science), Mrs. Renu Bala, Demonstrator (Home Science) and the college faculty. The students participated in these competitions with keen interest and the winners were duly acknowledged and awarded by the guests.

In the end, Dr. Rashmi Gujarati, Campus Director, K.C. Group, Nawanshahr thanked the experts from KVK and also assured full support in this noble cause.
