The hands-on training program on ‘Pre-processing and drying of fish’ was conducted for two days from 13th – 14th September 2023 at the Engineering Section, ICAR-CIFT, Cochin. The training programme was sponsored by ICAR for Scheduled Caste candidates under Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan. The training was conducted to develop skills in the pre-processing and hygienic drying of fish for small-scale farmers and entrepreneurs. Twenty-three participants from different parts of Kerala and Maharashtra attended the training program. The training covered various aspects related to fish handling, pre-processing, drying, storage and packaging of dried fish, entrepreneurship opportunities, Government schemes for entrepreneurs, and success stories. The working of solar dryers, refrigerated fish vending kiosk, and fish descaling machines were explained to the participants with practical sessions. The training course also had workshop visits to attain practical knowledge for the participants. The training certificate of participants was issued by the Director, CIFT in the presence of other officials of CIFT on 14th September during the valedictory session. On this occasion, a tripartite agreement was signed between CIFT, Mr. Sudheesh c/o AK Group and Kraftwork Solar Pvt. Ltd., for the customized design and development of a 250 kg solar electrical hybrid dryer. Dr. Suresh A, Principal Scientist, EIS Division & Nodal officer, SCSP made a special remark during the session.
