A training programme on ‘Good Aquaculture practices and Good Hygienic Practices’ was organized under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) of ICAR-CIFT at Cherpu Grama Panchayathu of Thrissur district on 12th April 2023 by Quality Assurance and Management  Division, ICAR-CIFT. The training programme was attended by  fish farmers of scheduled caste community.

Dr. Femeena Hassan, Principal Scientist and Head (i/c), Quality Assurance and Management Division, ICAR-CIFT presided over the function. In her speech she highlighted the importance of bringing Good Hygienic Practices in aquaculture activity and stressed the importance of safe fish to consumers. Smt. Sajisha Kalliyath, President, Grama Panchayath Cherpu inaugurated the programme by lighting the traditional lamp. Distribution of insulated boxes, crates, cutting boards, fish cutting scissors and brochures on hygienic handling of fish to the fish farmers was carried out during the function. Dr. Laly.S.J, Senior Scientist, Quality Assurance and Management  Division welcomed the gathering and Smt. Priya. E.R, Scientist, Quality Assurance and Management Division proposed vote of thanks.

The training programme included lectures on ‘Importance of Good Aquaculture Practices’ by Dr. Femeena Hassan, ‘Need for Good Hygienic Practices in fish farms by Dr. Laly.S.J and ‘Harvest and post-harvest handling of farmed fishes’ by Smt. Priya. E.R.

The programme also included a demonstration of rapid detection kits for formaldehyde and ammonia to fish farmers. Certificates were distributed to all the participants of training programme.
