A prize-distribution ceremony was held on the concluding day of the two-day Kisan Mela at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. Winners of various competitions, held on the first day of the Kisan Mela, were given away prizes.

In crop produce competition, among vegetables, Bhupinder Kaur (Faridkot), Jicky Singh (Faridkot), Balwinder Singh (Mansa), Jaspal Singh (Bathinda) and Gurprakar Singh (Gurdaspur) bagged the first prizes for garlic, bottle gourd, ghiya kadduram tori and chilli, respectively. Besides, Surinderpal Kaur (Sangrur), Sukhvir Singh (Mansa), Jaspreet Singh (Ludhiana), Harshpreet Singh (Patiala), Paramjit Singh (Kapurthala), Tirath Singh (Fazilka) and Jatinder Singh (Gurdaspur) got the first prizes for brinjal, guar phali, cucumber, jhar karela, bitter gourd, okra and onion, respectively.

Besides, Sukhdev Singh (Kapurthala), Ravikant (Fazilka) and Rajendra Singh (Kapurthala) received the first prizes for lobia, cotton and sugarcane, respectively.

In fruits, Satnam Singh (Barnala) and Balwinder Singh (Sangrur) got the first and the second prize for dragon fruit, while Malkit Singh of Fazilka was awarded the first prize for mitha. Gagandeep Singh and Jayant Singh of Fazilka clinched the first the second prize for malta, respectively. Sukhdev Singh (Bathinda) and Amitoj Singh (Kapurthala) won the first prizes for chakotar and baramasi lemon, respectively.

In field demonstrations, Department of Soil Science, and Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering were awarded the first and the second prize, respectively. The Farm Advisory Service Centre (FASC), Hoshiarpur and FASC, Bathinda clinched the top positions for Punjab Naujawan Kisan Sanstha. Sardar Gurvinder Singh of village Baroke in district Mansa, and Smt Ranjit Kaur of Ludhiana received the first prizes for millets production and Self-Help Group, respectively.

In the category of farm machinery and implements, International Tractors Limited bagged the first prize for tractors and combines, while Land Force won the first prize for tractor driven implements. VAR Hand Tools clinched the first prize for electric motors, engines and pumping sets, whereas National Fertilizer Limited got the first prize for fertilizers. Bayer Crop Sciences Limited received the first prize for pesticides, whereas KC Marketing Company was awarded the first prize for agro-processing machinery.
