Union Cabinet Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Sh. Narendra Singh Tomar visited KVK Leh-II at Nyoma in Ladakh on 11th April 2023 and appreciated its role in strengthening the livelihood security of the farmers. He said that this area is suitable for both agriculture and animal husbandry and KVK has a very important role in this sector. He asked the KVK to convert conventional agriculture of this area into advanced and high-tech agriculture so that farmers income can be doubled. He also visited exhibition stalls of local goods and handicraft put up by the KVK including other local departments. Further, he handed over input kits of natural farming to the farmers of 8 villages in the district level programme on Out Scaling of Natural Farming organised by the KVK. He inaugurated mushroom lab and micro irrigation unit at KVK farm and also visited low-cost green house, live demonstration of Natural Farming. He emphasised the pertinence of More Crop Per Drop initiative of the Government of India in the highly water scarce cold deserts areas like Nyoma. He also stressed upon the significance of mushroom for ensuring nutritional security of the local tribal people where only one crop season exists. He appreciated entire team of the KVK Nyoma for doing wonderful job under such harsh climatic conditions and enhancing agricultural development of Changthang Region.

Earlier, he visited Dungti village on the eastern border of Changthang region in Ladakh under the Vibrant Village Programme of the Government of India and interacted with the beneficiaries of central government schemes implemented in this region. He said that the border villages of the country are generally known as the last villages, but under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, these villages are the priority of the Government of India for development.

Member of Parliament from Ladakh Sh. Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, the Deputy Commissioner, Executive Councillor, Councillor of the Region and Heads of other line departments were also present on the occasion.
