ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana organized a Review-cum-Action Plan Workshop under the Technology Demonstration Component of National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (TDC-NICRA) project at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kathua (Jammu & Kashmir) on 12-13 August 2023. A total of 35 Scientists from 17 KVKs of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh participated, and deliberated upon important issues for successful implementation of the project activities.
Dr. Rajbir Singh, ADG (AAF&CC), ICAR and Chief Guest of the Inaugural Session stressed upon the documentation of success stories and key learnings attained during the project implementation. He emphasized the need to work in tandem with line departments and ensure suitable convergence with all stakeholders. He further outlined the salient achievements of NICRA attracting policy makers attention at the National/International platforms.
Dr. V.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad and Guets of Honour appreciated the coomendable work being carried out by different KVKs while improving the adaptive capacity of farmers in adopted villages under TDC-NICRA project. He talked about the indicators-based evaluation of demonstrated technologies, and emphasized the need for paradigm shift to achieve agricultural resilience following typological approach. He specifically pointed out towards achieving climate resiliency while adopting energy-saving, soil and water conservation, and carbon sequestration practices.
Dr. Dileep Kachroo, Former Registrar SKUAST, Jammu and Chairman of NICRA Zonal Monitoring Committee (ZMC) shared his field experiences and emphasized the need for Integrated Farming System (IFS) approach to build climate resilience in agriculture. Dr. S. K Gupta, DEE, SKUAST, Jammu appraised about different animal-based technological interventions focusing breeding, feeding and shelter management aspects.
Earlier, Dr. Parvender Sheoran, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana informed the house about the overall achievements of TDC-NICRA. He urged the KVK Scientists to generate evidence-based scientific outputs and correlate them with climatic variability while assessing the impact of demonstrated technological interventions with large impact at scale. He advised the KVKs to mobilize funding from ongoing National and State government schemes and emphasized the withdrawal strategy to have a long-lasting impact of project outcomes.
A publication entitled “Fostering Climate Resilient Agriculture through Technological Interventions” was also released during the workshop. The workshop also included a field visit to NICRA villages Saida and Sohal of Kathua district, where a Farmer-Scientist Interaction was also organized. Dr. JVNS Prasad, Programme Leader (TDC-NICRA), Dr. Ashish S. Murai, (Nodal officer, Zone-1), Dr. Simerjeet Kaur (ZMC member), Dr. Vishal (Incharge, KVK Kathua) and others were also present.
