A conference on “Integrated Crop Residue Management towards Zero Stubble Burning” was organized on 20th January 2023 as a part of the 3rd India Agri Proress Expo 2023 at Ludhiana Exhibition Centre, Sahnewal. Hon’ble Minister of Punjab Rural Development & Panchayats, NRI Affairs, Agriculture & Farmers Welfare S. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal inaugurated the Conference and the International Exhibition on Agricultural Machinery and Dairy Technology. The event was attended by more than 2500 participants including farmers, manufacturers, Government officials, researchers, media personnel, etc.

Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal during his address talked about issues like crop residue burning, poor irrigation water use efficiency, excess use of fertilizers, etc., while highlighting the status of agriculture in Punjab. He appealed to the farmers, scientists and industries to collaborate for devising and implementing win-win strategies that will promote sustainable agriculture in the state. He finally appreciated the organizers and the partners of the conference to bringing together different stakeholders on a platform.

Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana chaired the technical session and advised about the uses of paddy straw as fodder by nutritional enrichment besides its incorporation and mulching. Earlier, Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana formally welcomed the dignitaries and the participants and briefly set the context of the conference. He highlighted the significance of converging the efforts of all the stakeholders in addressing the issue of crop residue management.

During the technical session, Dr. Gursahib Singh Manes, Additional Director of Research (FM&BE), PAU, Ludhiana presented the status of crop residue management in Punjab. Sh. Jagminder Singh Nain, Joint Director, Department of Agriculture, Haryana and S. Jagdish Singh, Joint Director, Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Punjab presented the status of residue management machinery and related efforts in the respective states. Similarly, Dr. Manpreet Singh, Extension Scientist (FMPE), PAU, Ludhiana talked about Smart Seeder for effective management of crop residues. Dr. H. S. Sidhu, Principal Scientist, Dept. of FMPE, PAU, Ludhiana spoke on challenges, lessons and strategies for residue management and Dr. Mahesh Narang, Head, Dept. of FMPE, PAU, Ludhiana explained the outcomes from role of machinery in residue management.

Baldev Singh, President, PSAIMA India and Mr. G. S. Dhillon, MD, Udan Media & Communications were also present on the dais. The vote of thanks was presented by S. Sarbjeet Singh Panesar, Vice Chairman, AMMA-India.
