A three-day Training Programme was organised for Women Farmers on “Hands on Training on Preparation of Millet-based Products for Enhancing Nutritional Security” during 14-16th March 2023 at ICAR-CRIDA, Santoshnagar, Hyderabad under SC Sub Plan.

The training programme was inaugurated on 14th March 2023 by Chief Guest Dr. V.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad. In his inaugural speech, Dr. VK Singh highlighted the importance of millets in the daily diet. The training covered various aspects including importance of millets for nutritional security, value addition in crops, the role of women in rainwater management, crop diversification for enhancing livelihood security, kitchen gardening, and drudgery-reducing farm implements and role of livestock for improving livelihood security. The training program was coordinated by a team of CRIDA scientists consisting of Drs. Savitha Santosh, K. Sreedevi Shankar, H. B. Santosh, G. Venkatesh, Suvana S, Jagriti Rohit and C. N. Anshida Beevi.


As part of training various exposure visits were conducted for women farmers, including AICRP on Women in Agriculture, Hyderabad, Millet Production & Incubation Centre (MPIC), PJTSAU, and ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad. During AICRP on Women in Agriculture visit, Dr. Neela Rani, Unit Coordinator, briefed about the activities and Dr. Kamalaja explained about importance of nutrition and role of women in management of family health. Dr. D. Rajani explained about importance of kitchen gardening, Dr. K. Indhudhara Reddy briefed about crop production practises. Later Dr. Shweta exposed the farmers about drudgery reducing farm implements suitable for farm women. The trainees visited MPIC, PJTSAU where hands on training provided on primary processing, secondary processing and preparation of products such as biscuit making, rawa making etc and packaging of products. The trainees visited ICAR-Directorate of Poultry research, Hyderabad, Dr. B. Prakash, Principal Scientist explained in detail about various activities of the institute. The various poultry birds developed by the institute for various regions, along with their rearing were explained in detail. Later on, trainees visited poultry display unit to see various poultry birds. The exposure visit was coordinated by Dr. Savitha Santosh & Dr. CN Anshida Beevi.

The valedictory session of the training programme was held on 16th March 2023. Dr. Savitha Santosh, Training Coordinator welcomed all the participants and Dr. T. V. Prasad, Nodal Officer, SCSP presented a brief report of the training programme. Dr. V.K Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA who is the Chief Guest for the valedictory session highlighted the importance of millets for nutritional security and how women farmers can come forward to form self-help groups for income generation. Later, the Director distributed the certificates and Nutri Millet Kits to the participants. Twenty SC women farmers from Kondampet Village, Kotapally Mandal, Mancherial attended the training programme.
