Maharashtra State Animal Husbandry Department (AHD) has organized three days Mahapashudhan Expo-2023 in Shirdi, Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra State from 24th to 26th March, 2023. The expo was inaugurated by the State Agriculture Minister, Abdul Sattar and Animal Husbandry Minister, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil. Mr Sujay Vikhe Patil, MLA, highlighted the significance of Mahaexpo-2023 and its successful organization. Mr Sachindra Pratap Singh, Commissioner (Animal Husbandry), informed about the challenges faced by the Department of Animal Husbandry Maharashtra State and its role in effective controlling of Lumpi Skin Disease (LSD), which was prevalent in recent days affecting a large cattle population across the country including Maharashtra State. He also informed that Maharashtra will be the first State to produce LSD vaccine and he thanked ICAR-IVRI and NRC Equines for developing the vaccine and transferring the vaccine technology for large scale production. Dr Sharad Gadakh, Vice Chancellor, MAFSU; Dr PG Patil, Vice Chancellor, MPKV; Mr Rajesh P, Chairman, Mahananda Dairy; Mrs Shalinitai Vikhe Patil; Mrs Keshartai Pawar; Mr Shivajirao Kardile; Mr Sushilkumar Chavan, Agri Commissioner; Dr Ramkrishna Game, RJC, Nashik were also present on the occasion.


About 300 stalls were set up in Mahapashudhan Expo-2023, depicting various aspects of animal husbandry practices, dairy farming, goat farming, poultry rearing, value-addition, and all other animal aspects which were complementary to agriculture. In this largest national livestock expo, different breeds of cows, buffaloes, poultry, sheep, goats and horses were also exhibited for farmers’ attraction. For the benefit of farmers attending the expo, expert guidance, lectures and cultural programmes were also organized. A large number of people (about 8 lakh) visited the expo and were benefited from the exhibits of various animal husbandry practices, models, entrepreneurs, elite animals, and breeds etc.
The TEC-IVRI Pune participated in the Mahaexpo-2023 by putting up a stall depicting various technologies and activities of IVRI, and became the center of attraction for a large number of farmers, veterinary doctors, professionals and school children. Thousands of visitors visited the stall during period of 3 days. Dr Sanghratna V Bahire, Scientist and Ms. Manisha Naikwade, Technician from the Centre participated and shared information about IVRI technologies and guided the visitors on scientific livestock farming, like dairy farming, clean milk production, goatry, poultry, piggery, mixed farming, and feed & fodder etc. Different literature on IVRI technologies such as Jaigopal vermicomposting, vaccines, diagnostics, nutritional technologies, livestock product technologies etc. were distributed to the interested visitors. Exhibits of different models of fracture fixation devices/techniques such as circular fixator, bilateral linear fixator, epoxy-pin fixator, interlocking nails and plates developed for large animals attracted the attention of many visitors.
The programme concluded on 26th March 2023 in the presence of Mr Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister of Maharashtra State. Other prominent dignitaries present on the occasion were Mr Vikhe Patil AHD Minister, Mr Girish Mahajan Minister and Mr Sadashivrao Lokhande MLA. Mr Sujay Vikhe Patil compered the proceedings and Mr Sachindra Pratap Singh, Commissioner of AH, expressed vote of thanks.
