The School of Organic Farming, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kheri, conducted a training course titled “Vermicompost Production Technologies” on December 8, 2023. This initiative was part of a project funded by the National Horticulture Mission and took place at KVK Sangrur, Kheri.

Dr SS Walia, Director of the School of Organic Farming, shed light on the crucial role of vermicompost in an integrated farming system, emphasizing income enhancement and waste recycling.

Dr Mandeep Singh, Associate Director (Training), initiated the program by emphasizing the pivotal role of Krishi Vigyan Kendra in augmenting farm income. Dr Ravinder Kaur, Assistant Professor, discussed the significance of nurseries and the adoption of protected cultivation techniques to ensure high-quality vegetable production through vermicompost.

Dr Neeraj Rani, the Principal Investigator of the project, provided a detailed procedure for preparing vermicompost from various substrates and encouraged farmers to embrace this technology. Additionally, Dr Kuldeep Singh Bhullar, Fruit Scientist, highlighted the benefits of using vermicompost in horticultural crops.
