Under All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP)-Women In Agriculture, the Department of Resource Management and Consumer Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), conducted a lecture-cum-demonstration on the layout of kitchen garden and the importance of nutritious food in daily life at the village Boparai Kalan. Around 57 farm women participated in this event which was held to mark International Women’s Day. The Sarpanch of the village Mr Gurpreet Singh was the chief guest.

Dr Shivani Rana, Scientist, AICRP, RMCS welcomed all the participants, Sarpanch of the village and anganwari workers. She delivered a motivational lecture on importance of Women’s Day and urged the participants to start income generating activities which endorse women’s sense of self-worth. She also stressed on the role of women entrepreneurship for the nation building and shed light on various opportunities available for women in the field of Home Science.

Later, Dr Rana met Mr Gurmail Singh, President of Co-operative Society, with an aim to open Technology Resource Centre in the village. During this programme, PAU summer vegetable kits were distributed as a token of appreciation to each one to encourage kitchen gardening at household level. Later, Dr Rana proposed a vote of thanks.

Mrs Harpreet Kaur, Mrs Maya Kaur, Ms Charanjit Kaur, Mrs Paramjit Kaur (ANM and Anganwari Workers); and Mrs Tejinder Kaur were also present at the celebration.
