Since its inception, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has been urging and encouraging the farmers to avoid purchasing un-recommended seed and procure seed from a reliable source. Maintaining its quality and standards to retain the long-lasting trust and faith of farmers, PAU has produced sufficient seed of short duration paddy varieties like PR 130, PR 129, PR 128, PR 126, PR 121 and PR 114; and basmati varieties like Punjab Basmati 7, Pusa basmati 1847, Pusa Basmati 1121 and Pusa Basmati 1509 for the present Kharif season. Divulging this information, Dr Rajinder Singh, Associate Director (Seeds), informed that all the paddy varieties are resistant to bacterial blight and have less straw load. Apart from these, seed of high yielding and short duration summer moong variety, SML 1827 is also available in sufficient quantity, he told. These seeds are available at various Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), Farm Advisory Service Centres (FASCs), Regional Research Stations (RRSs) and University Seed Farms (USFs), located in all the districts of the state, he said. For the enhanced productivity and profitability, Dr Singh called upon the farmers to purchase quality and certified seed from their nearby situated KVKs, FASCs, RRSs and USFs.
