The Department of Vegetable Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized an expert lecture on “Recent Advances in Okra Breeding” which was delivered by a renowned okra breeder Dr RK Yadav, Principal Scientist, Division of Vegetable Science, Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. All the faculty members and postgraduate students of the vegetable science attended the lecture and participated in the interactive session.

While discussing breeding and biotechnological aspects of okra genetic improvement, Dr Yadav emphasized on its national economic importance and health benefits to ensure nutritional security. He also highlighted various future okra breeding challenges. Further, Dr Yadav called for a collaborative work with PAU while appreciating the departmental research and academic activities.

The Head of the Department Dr Tarsem Singh Dhillon, while welcoming and introducing the IARI expert, elaborated the guest speaker’s stupendous academic and research achievements. The Department of Vegetable Science was organizing expert lectures of eminent scientists for the benefit of students and faculty, he added.

Dr Hira Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Vegetable Science, coordinated the event and proposed a vote of thanks.
