The research work of the All India Coordinated Research Project on Agroforestry (AICRP-AF) Centre of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has been adjudged as the best during the Annual Group Meeting of AICRP Centers, held at Prof Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU), Hyderabad from October 16-18, 2023. Out of 36 coordinating center’s spread across the country, PAU Agroforestry Centre secured the first position. Dr Navneet Kaur, Principal Agronomist, made a presentation of work carried out at PAU Centre. Dr Rishi Gill Principal Scientist (Agroforestry), is the Officer Incharge, and Dr Baljit Singh, Dr GPS Dhillon and Dr Avtar Singh are associated scientists in the project. Earlier also in 2013 and 2017, the PAU Agroforestry Centre was conferred with the Best Presentation Award. Established in 1983, the focus of the Centre is on the collection and evaluation of promising agroforestry tree species to develop economically viable and ecologically sound agroforestry models.

In this meeting, Dr Rishi Gill was conferred with the Indian Society of Agroforestry Fellowship. This esteemed award is a testament to his exceptional contributions and achievements in the field of agroforestry over a period of two decades. This well-deserved recognition highlights his unwavering dedication and commitment to advancing the principles and practices of agroforestry.

The Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal congratulated the team for bringing laurels to the University.

Dr AS Dhatt, Director of Research, appreciated the work done by the agroforestry team and highlighted the role of agroforestry in the present scenario of climate change.

The committee of the judges comprised Dr Rajbir Singh, Assistant Director General (Agronomy, Agroforestry and Climate Change), Natural Resource Management Division, ICAR, New Delhi; Dr A Arunachalam, Director of Central Agroforestry Research Institute, Jhansi and Project Coordinator AICRP-AF; Dr B Mohan Kumar, Ex Vice-Chancellor, Arunachal University of Studies, Namsai and Dr C Biradar, Country Director, Center for International Forest Research and International Council for Research in Agroforestry.
