About Department of Entomology and Agricultural Zoology
Department of Entomology and Agricultural Zoology came into existence in 1971 under the Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University. This is one of the oldest departments of Entomology in India. The department is offering courses in agricultural entomology to both the undergraduate and post graduate students. The department is pioneer in the research of soil arthropods (supported by ICAR), insecticide toxicology, bio-control, insect physiology, integrated pest management and insect molecular biology. The departmental research supported by extramural research funding’s from various national and international funding agencies. The departmental laboratory is equipped for research on insect taxonomy, toxicology, bio-control and molecular biology.
OBJECTIVES OF THE WORKSHOP
The proposed workshop is intended to provide hands-on training on various molecular techniques and bio-informatics applications to students and faculty members dealing with agricultural pests. The hands-on training will cover DNA extraction, PCR, Primer designing, Gel electrophoresis, species-specific markers, Real-time PCR, and various bioinformatics applications.
