Under the propitious banner of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, an initiative of the Government of India, to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of Indian independence, the glorious history, its culture, achievements, and the civilization. Department of Linguistics, FoA, BHU, Varanasi feels immense pleasure to organize a two day National Seminar on Teaching-Learning in Mother/Local Tongue: NEP-2020 and the 1st Alumni Meet from 30th September to 1st October, 2023. It winds up the celebration of the 50 years of the department’s establishment and commemoration of the Golden Jubilee Celebration which started with hosting the 49th All India Conference of Dravidian Linguists (AICDL) in June, 2022.

The Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, BHU has completed its 50 years. Last year, we commemorated the Golden Jubilee and organized the 49th AICDL and a series of international and national Invited lectures throughout the year. The journey of our department has been immensely exciting and it is a major stakeholder of linguistic studies in the Northern part of India. The department specializes in teaching, training and research in all the fields of applied and theoretical linguistics. It’s a matter of honor to celebrate its first ever Alumni meet cum National Seminar in the religious capital of India i.e., Varanasi In a span of fifty years, our graduates have become global citizens. We firmly believe that all of you nurture mutual pride and a sense of achievement. You are our greatest ambassadors! All of you are also important stakeholders of Linguistics and this Institute is as much yours as it is ours. We must keep reinventing the path, we are walking on and strive for the betterment of this department every day. Your association with the department and Banaras Hindu University is life-long and cannot be limited by your physical presence on the campus. This is your Alma Mater and this department will always be a part of all that life has to offer you. We welcome your constructive suggestions in all the dimensions of Department of Linguistics, BHU.

About the Venue of the Conference:
Banaras Hindu University is the largest residential university in Asia, situated in one of the oldest living cities of the planet. The campus in an extensive area of 1360 acres of land offers quality education in all areas of learning. It is half a mile away from the holy river Ganga. Varanasi, Religious Capital of India, also known as City of Temples is a premier place of oriental learning with four universities. It is well known for its silk fabrics, paan, perfumes, artistic brass and copper wares and handicrafts. The holy Buddhist place, Sarnath, is its pride. Therefore, the colorful city has a magnetic attraction and a must visit place for the tourists from all over the world.
