Indian Society for Sheep and Goat Production and Utilization (ISSGPU) invites you for its International conference, 2024 (ISSGPUCON 2024) on “Recent trends and future perspectives to improve the performance, health and welfare of small ruminants under changing climate scenario” to be organized by Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary Education and Research (RIVER) at Puducherry from April 24th to 26th, 2024.
Global livestock production is now under immense pressure for sustainability under the challenging climatic conditions. Climate change leads to reduction in livestock productivity by directly depressing animals’ adaptive response mechanisms, altering the spread and prevalence of diseases. One step towards food security is to have species and breeds which can cope with adversities of climate change. In this aspect, there is an increasing preference among the small and marginal farmers of urban and semi urban areas for small ruminants especially the goat farming over large ruminants due to the perception about superior capacity to tolerate water and feed scarcity, heat stress, and for possessing better skills to adapt to the environment.
The sheep and goats play a significant role in the livelihood and nutritional security of a large number of rural farmers. The theme of this conference aims to highlight recent innovative technologies and the perspectives in the field of climate resilient small ruminant production to augment performance, health and welfare. To focus on the above aspects, significant number of eminent academicians, scientists, students, policy makers from India and abroad are likely to grace the event.
