ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur organized training cum workshop on “Protection of plant variety and farmers’ rights” on 18 March, 2023.Training cum workshop was organized to interact with the farmers from nearby villages and provided them information on Protection of plant variety and farmers’ rights. Dr. J.S. Mishra, Director, ICAR-DWR emphasized the nutritional benefits of millets and the need to expand its cultivation area across the country. Dr. P.K. Singh, Coordinator of the programme talked on various aspects of Protection of Plant Variety and Farmers rights Authority (PPV&FRA) such as farmers’ rights, registration, registration fee, registration certificate and intellectual property etc. Dr. R.P. Dubey, Principal Scientist, delivered an interactive lecture on the importance of millets and scientific production techniques of different millet crops.

The programme was attended by around 160farmersand stake-holders from nearby villages namely Panagar, Sehora, Barounda and Umariya Choubey, Sahpura localities of Jabalpur. During the programme, scientists, technical officers, RA, SRFs, students and other staff of the Directorate were also present.

On the occasion of International Millets Conference, address of Hon’ble Prime Minister’s on the importance of ‘Shree Anna’ was also telecasted for the benefits of farmers, scientific /other staff of the Directorate and other stake-holder/Govt. officials.
