The ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research (DWR), Jabalpur celebrated the “World Intellectual Property Day” on the theme “Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity” on 26th April, 2023. All the Scientists, Technical Officers, RA, SRF, Young Professionals and students of the Directorate attended the programme.

On the occasion, a lecture on “Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity” has been organized to create awareness about the IPR rights. Dr. Yogita Gharde, Senior Scientist, ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur delivered the lecture. In the lecture, the role of IP rights, such as patents, copyrights, designs, trademarks, plant variety, technology licensing, IP auditing, IP litigation was highlighted with special reference to the women scientists working in the research fields. She discussed about the owners’ rights under different form of IPRs and protection that IPR offers. She also highlighted on Geographical Indications tag obtained by different parts of India as well as by Madhya Pradesh such as Chanderi saree, Bengal Rasagulla, Agra Petha, Mysore pak, Basmati rice, Kholhapuri chappals, Nagpur orange, Jabalpur Bhedagat stone art etc. Later a general discussion on technology patent filing, obtaining copy right and trademarks was discussed in the house and participants get benefited.


Dr. P.K. Singh, Officiating Director, ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur addressed the house about the importance of celebrating the World Intellectual Property Day; “can do” attitude of women inventors, creators and entrepreneurs around the world and their ground-breaking work. He highlighted the contribution of women scientists in ICAR and Directorate as well. He also encouraged all scientists of the Directorate to get more patents for their work. Dr. Chethan C.R., briefed the different patent types and coordinated the programme.
