A 5-day training program was organized on ‘Low-cost feed production and feeding in fish farming’ for fish farmers and other stakeholders during 18-22 September, 2023, at the ICAR Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar. Dr. S.S. Giri, Head of Fish Nutrition and Physiology Division and Dr Siddaiah, G.M., Scientist were the Course Directors. In the inaugural address, Dr. S.S. Giri, Head, Fish Nutrition and Physiology Division, emphasized the importance of feed-based fish farming for increased pond production and net return. The training activities included theoretical and practical classes on fish nutrition and feeding, feeding devices, feed additives, water quality management and aquaculture of freshwater fishes. Over 20 trainees from 10 states participated in the program and were exposed to hands-on feed formulation and preparation of farm-made and extruded feeds. The training program was coordinated by Dr. B.N. Paul, Dr. K.C. Das, Dr. A. Saha, Dr. N.K. Chandan, Mrs. Rakhi Kumari, and Er S.K. Nayak and facilitated by Mr. S Gudipudi and Sri A Behera. In closing ceremony, Dr. P.K. Sahoo, Director, ICAR-CIFA, addressed the participants, and emphasized the importance of cost-effective feeds for aquaculture, and also distributed the certificates to the trainees.
