A district level seminar and exhibition was organized by ICAR-KVK, CPCRI, Kasaragod at Chowtara Chavadi, Meeyapadavu, Meenja Panchayath on 27.06.2023, to facilitate the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative on jackfruit for Kasaragod district. The programme was intended to create awareness on varieties suitable for different purpose and importance and possibilities of jackfruit dishes in the daily diet.
Smt. Sundari R. Shetty, President, Meenja Panchayath presided and Dr. K.B Hebbar, Director, CPCRI, Kasaragod inaugurated the programme and he mentioned the importance of jackfruit as a viable commercial crop for value addition for the district and its importance in daily diet. Dr. D.C Chowta, progressive farmer, inaugurated the jackfruit exhibition. The exhibition included display of more than 30 selective jackfruit varieties collected from Shri. Muliya V.K. Sharma, progressive farmers from “Halasu Snehi Koota”, various jackfruit value added products from five successful entrepreneurs, jackfruit grafts, jackfruit processing implements and equipments, etc. During the programme value added products from two entrepreneurs trained from ICAR-KVK, Kasaragod with the brand name “Organic Farm products, Kudlu and Food Products Uduma, were released by the Director, CPCRI, Kasaragod. Smt.Arjitha, ADA,Manjeshwar Block delivered the felicitations.
Two technical sessions were organized on the topic ‘Jackfruit and its biodiversity’ by Sri. Gabriel Vegas (Retd. Forest Officer) and ‘Jackfruit varieties and value addition’ by Shri V K. Sharma,Progressive farmer, Halasu Snehi Koota respectively. More than 200 farmers/farm women participated in the programme.
