Background and Brief course outline
ICAR-NBAIR is a premier research institute in the country working on insect-related research activities, development of eco-friendly biocontrol and biocontrol compatible technologies to manage the notorious insect pests in the coconut ecosystem without the use of harmful insecticides. The recent invasive whiteflies viz., rugose spiraling whitefly, Bondar’s nesting whitefly, nesting whitefly and palm infesting whitefly problem has been reported on coconut and many other economically important crop plants in the southern states of the country. The ICAR-NBAIR has developed two viable technologies for the management of the invasive whiteflies in India. This training is intended to impart training on diagnosis and identification, mass production protocol for entomopathogens and biocontrol agents against these invasive whiteflies and various augmentative and conservation strategies for these biocontrol agents. Besides whiteflies, other coconut insect pests and eriophyid mite and their management strategies through use of biocontrol and biocontrol compatible approaches also covered.
About the Institute
