Palampur 20 May.World honey bee day was celebrated at Bee Research Station (BRS) of CSK H.P.Agriculture University at Nagrota Bagwan, 25 KMs from here today.

While addressing bee keepers and scientists, Chief Guest Sh R.S.Bali, Chairman, H.P.Tourism Development Corporation, said that historic BRS will be linked with Tourism and quality honey of the station and area will be made available to different tourism hotels and units of the State Government. He also underlined the importance of honey bees in agriculture, horticulture and forestry and asked youngsters to get training and become professional bee keepers. In his presidential remarks, Prof.H. K. Chaudhary, Vice-Chancellor, highlighted the status and scope of bee keeping in H.P.

He said that BRS has served the nation and even provided assistance and guidance to bee keepers and scientists of neighboring countries. He detailed the recent initiatives to develop the station and asked farmers to take full advantage of this station to enhance their skills in bee keeping. Dr S.P.Dixit, Director of Research, highlighted importance of this day and detailed future projections in bee keeping. Dr.Sudhsndhu Mishra, Chief General Manager, NABARD spoke on impact of climate change on beekeeping and bee keeping as entrepreneurship. The Chief Guest and Vice-Chancellor released bee keeping activity calander and distributed KCC.They also honored some Progressing bee keepers of the area. Dr Surender Sharma, Incharge of the station gave details of major activities of the station. Around 150 farmers of the surrounding villages participated in the program.
