Capacity building cum field visit was conducted at ARS, Tornala on 30.09.2023 to 25 field officers of Deshpande Foundation, a non-governmental organization, working in the areas of agriculture. Dr. S. Sridevi, Principal Scientist and Head, ARS, Tornala provided training on sustainable practices in major agriculture crops. As part of this program a capacity strengthening program to staff was conducted on the best practices of cotton crop cultivation, water management techniques, natural resource management, soil health, nutrient management, identification and remedies of nutrient deficiencies in cotton crop. She also stressed that high density planting of cotton is gaining popularity as the crop matures early with synchronous boll bursting, escapes pink boll worm incidence and can take up second crop in the forth coming season. Dr. A. Ramadevi, Scientist (Entomology) trained the staff on identification of stage wise insect pests and diseases in cotton crop followed by management practices to be adopted by the farmers along with pink boll worm management practices to be followed during on and off season in cotton. This was followed by field visit on various technologies viz., HDPS Cotton, Dry wet and transplanted rice fields, redgram seed production plots carried out at Agricultural Research Station, Tornala. In this Capacity building cum field visit programme all the scientists of ARS and DAATTC, Tornala participated and cleared various doubts queried by the field officers during field visit.
