A seminar on “Application of Drone Technology in Agriculture” was organized on 21th January 2023 as a part of the 3rd India Agri Proress Expo 2023 at Ludhiana Exhibition Centre, Sahnewal. Dr. H. K. Choudhary, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of CSKHPKV, Palampur was the Chief Guest and Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director, ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana was the Guest of Honour. The exhibition was attended by more than 5000 participants including Government officials, researchers, students, Heads and Scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendras, machine manufacturers, media personnel and farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
Dr. H. K. Choudhary, Chief Guest saluted the spirit and contribution of farmers of Punjab during his address. He recalled the growth of agriculture since independence and hoped for even better future of Indian agriculture with latest technology application. He talked about different technologies that can be adopted by small and marginal farmers. He finally appealed to the researchers and farmers to work on inclusive technologies and adaptation strategies with respect to changing climate and agricultural scenario.
Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Guest of Honour talked about wider scope of drones in different domains of agriculture. He emphasized the importance of high-tech and low cost solutions in the Indian farming context. He invited the farmers to revisit agriculture with respect to current post-harvest losses and possible technological answers.
Earlier, Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana formally welcomed the participants and briefly set the context of the conference. He stressed on Government initiatives to popularize un-manned vehicle i.e. drones in agriculture. During the technical session, Dr. Santosh Kumar, Scientist (FMP), PAU, Ludhiana has thrown light on the applications of drone in agriculture with glimpses of current research efforts. Dr. Mahesh Narang, Head, Dept. of FMPE, PAU, Ludhiana talked about the future technologies that are expected to bring about significant changes in the course of agriculture. Dr. Pushpendra Singh, Associate Professor, IIT, Ropar explained cyber physical systems for precision agriculture. Brief presentations were also made by Scientist from Food and Agriculture Department, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and representatives of drone manufacturing companies. The vote of thanks was presented by S. Sarbjeet Singh Panesar, Vice Chairman, AMMA-India.
