Under the guidance of the Directorate of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana, a travel seminar on Surface Seeder sown wheat was organized by FASC, Tarn Taran on February 29 2024. The event was graced by Dr M S Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana, who emphasized the importance of adopting surface seeder technology for wheat and paddy straw management. Dr Parvinder Singh, in charge of FASC, Tarn Taran, welcomed Dr M S Bhullar and all the participants.

Dr Jasvir Singh Gill, Agronomist, shared insights about the surface seeder machine and operational precautions. Queries regarding the use of surface seeder were discussed with officials from the Department of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, as well as farmers. Dr Amit Kaul and Dr Parminder Singh Sandhu, Agronomists, discussed Good Agronomic Practices for successfully cultivating this technology.

Dr Harpal Singh Pannu, Chief Agriculture Officer, Tarn Taran, highlighted the need to provide technical guidance to department staff and farmers to promote this technology on a large scale.

The seminar included a field visit to S Jaskaran Singh’s farm, where 30 acres of wheat were sown successfully using the surface seeder. S Gurbachan Singh of the same village shared his positive experience with the technology and advised other farmers to adopt it. S Inderjit Singh of village Sarhali showed his willingness to sow all his area with this machine and offered his tractor and surface seeder free of cost to nearby farmers for wheat sowing to manage straw without burning. S Hardev Singh of village Jamarai, who sowed 11 acres successfully, also shared the benefits of the super seeder.

Dr. M S Bhullar honored 25 farmers who had successfully adopted the surface seeder technology and appreciated their efforts. About 100 acres of surface seeder were visited by PAU experts, officials from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and farmers from different villages. Dr Bikramjit Singh, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Amritsar, Dr Tajinder Singh, District Training Officer, Tarn Taran, Agriculture Officers from different blocks of Tarn Taran, and scientists from KVK, Booh, along with approximately 200 farmers, attended the seminar.

Dr Parminder Kaur extended a vote of thanks to all the officers, scientists, and farmers who participated in the seminar.
