ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar organized three days Training-cum-Demonstration Programme on “Women Friendly Multipurpose Integrated Vertical Nutri-Farming System for Household Production and Nutrition” at Alando village, Biridi block, Jagatsinghpur district; Mendhasala village, Bhubaneswar block, Khordha district and ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar during 04 to 06 March, 2024. Dr. Tania Seth, Scientist, ICAR-CIWA sensitized the farmwomen about the advantages of women friendly integrated vertical farming system for ensuring dietary diversity and regular availability of nutrient rich vegetables, mushrooms, eggs and meat from the homestead backyard area. The programme was aimed at imparting demonstration and hands on training regarding various activities of IVNFS model such as the layout of vegetable crops in vertical troughs, row to row and plant to plant spacing for each type of vegetables that needs to be followed for vegetable cultivation in vertical troughs, mushroom cultivation, poultry farming, and azolla cultivation etc. which will help to improve nutritional status of farmwomen. During this programme, different techniques of vertical farming viz., cultivation of vegetables, herbs and strawberries in vertical trellis, hydroponic fodder cultivation, paddy straw and oyster mushroom cultivation and poultry production were also popularized among the participants. A total of 65 farmwomen were participated in the three days Training-cum-Demonstration programme. At the end of the programme, vegetable seed kits consisting of seasonal vegetables (Cowpea, Amaranthus, Bitter gourd, Pumpkin and Okra) and mushroom spawn were distributed to the farmwomen. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Tania Seth, ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar.
