AICRP (Sunflower) center PAU, Ludhiana and ICAR-IIOR, Hyderabad jointly organized the “Sunflower Field Day” under the DAC funded project “Revival of Sunflower Cultivation “on May 3 rd,2023 at the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. Hon’ble Director of Research of PAU, Ludhiana Dr. Ajmer Singh Dhatt was the Chief Guest. Dr. R.K. Mathur, Director, ICAR-IIOR, Hyderabad and Mr. Bipul Srivastava, Deputy Commissioner (Oilseeds), DA & FW, GoI, New Delhi were the guest of honor. A total of 38 promising sunflower hybrids (released as well as pipeline) including private (16) and public (22) sectors were raised at research farm of PAU, Ludhiana to assess the performance of public as well as private hybrids to identify the best hybrids. The program was attended by Dr. Rajinder Singh, Associate Director (Seeds), PAU, Ludhiana, Dr. V.S. Sohu, Head, Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, PAU, Ludhiana, galaxy of scientists from ICAR-IIOR, various AICRP centers, representative of six private companies, private entrepreneurs, farmers, officials from public seed agencies like NSC, HIL, NDDB and NAFED, etc. Following the field visit, an interaction meeting was organized to discuss various issues of sunflower crop. The dignitaries visited various facilities of PAU, Ludhiana including breeder seed production plots of the parental lines of the newly released sunflower hybrid PSH-2080, seed threshing yard and also seed processing unit.
