ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore, organized a seven days skill development cum capacity building program on Inland fisheries management for the rural farmers of Gopalganj district of Bihar. A total of 18 rural farmers were participated in this training program during 30 January to 5 February 2024 with the aim to strengthen the knowledge and skill on different aspects of inland fisheries management for the sustainable fish production and livelihood. The training program was inaugurated by Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore with the active interaction session with the trainee farmers, in which he encouraged them to develop their knowledge for opting sustainable livelihood. Dr. Das urged the farmers to explore the available potential of inland water resources for the enhancing the production and productivity by adopting the scientific knowledge.


The training program was emphasized on various aspects of fisheries management which includes nursery and rearing pond construction and management, induced breeding and hatchery technology, composite fish culture, water quality management, fish feed preparation, fish health management,

culture based fisheries, enclosure culture, ornamental fish rearing and information about PMMSY and economic evaluations of different rearing systems. The trainees also had the field exposure visits to the ICAR-CIFA Kalyani centre, East Kolkata wetland, Naihati fish seed market, Ghalib street ornamental fish market and private fish farm for the practical exposure. The trainees were also introduced to the institutes facilities such as Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS), ornamental hatchery unit, Ganga fish conservation unit and fish feed mill. The practical sessions on different need-based aspects such as basic water quality analysis and fish feed preparation using locally available ingredients were organized for the trainees to strengthen their practical skills. The seven days training program was concluded with certificate distribution to the participants. Trainees expressed their high level of satisfaction with training program. The training program was coordinated by Dr. Aparna Roy and Mr. Mitesh H. Ramteke with the technical support of Mr. Sujit Choudhury, Mr. Manabendra Roy and Dr. Avishek Saha under the guidance and leadership of Dr. B.K. Das, Director ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore.
