ICAR-CIFRI extended help to the SC community to sustain the livelihood through in-situ fish seed raising and culture-based fisheries (CBF) in 3 floodplain wetlands: Kumli and Khalsi wetland from Nadia district and Chomordaha wetland from North 24 Parganas of West Bengal. On July 13 and 14, 2023, ICAR-CIFRI provided 1 ton fish feed each to the three wetlands to assisst the fish seed raising activities. Previously, ICAR-CIFRI provided HDPE pen, fishing boats, coracles, fish feed, fish seed, fishing nets and other fisheries implements to demonstrate the in-situ fish seed raising through pen culture for culture-based fisheries in the wetlands. This year PPP mode was initiated where the beneficiaries will procure fish seed for raising fish seed in pen which to increase the fish production from the wetlands.


The fish feed was distributed by Dr. B. K. Das, the Director of the institute. The fish feed distribution program was coordinated by Dr. Lianthuamluaia, Scientist, with the assistance of Ms. Sangeeta Chakraborty (T-3) and Mr. Kausik Mondal (T-3), under the guidance of the Director, ICAR-CIFRI. This program is expected to benefit around 550 beneficiaries.
