Regional Station, Minicoy of ICAR-CIARI Port Blair conducted “Awareness on organic farming, IPM and Input distribution under Schedule Tribe Component (STC)” for the welfare of marginal farmers of Kalpeni Islands on 30/05/2023.

Speaking on the inaugural occasion, the Guest Smt. Sabitha Beegam Agriculture Demonstration Unit Incharge, Kadamath Island, expressed her happiness on the activities of the Regional Station of ICAR-CIARI. She interacted with the farmers and shared her experience on the biocontrol of various agricultural pest and importance of organic farming in islands. The Guest of honour, Shri. Saleem K.V, Agriculture Demonstration Unit Incharge. Kalpeni Island, conveyed his views and experience on organic farming. The member from team ICAR-CIARI Regional Station, Shri. Arif M.I, Senior Technician, deliberated the activities and technologies of ICAR-CIARI on organic farming, IFS & IPM and demonstrated on effective usage of fruit fly pheromone trap.

The inputs such as bio fertilizers, bio pesticides kits and pheromone traps were distributed to the 6 male and 6 female farmers. A total of 17 people attended the program representing farmers from different cluster of villages, officials of Department of Agriculture, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry from Kalpeni Island.

Dr Gladston Y, & Dr. Ajina S.M, Conveners, Coordinators Shri Shareefuddeen Hassan & Shri Arif M.I., Dr.S.K. Zamir Ahmed, Nodal Officer, Lakshadweep coordinated the overall conduct of programme under the Chairmanship of Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
