ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow, has initiated to popularize ‘Report Fish Disease’ App among fish farmers and fisheries officials of West Bengal. In this regard, an interaction meeting was organized by ICAR-NBFGR under the guidance of Dr. U. K. Sarkar, Director, ICARNBFGR at West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS), Kolkata, on August 28, 2023, in presence of Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, Dr. S.S. Dana, Director, Research, Extension & Farms, WBUAFS, Kolkata and Dr. Shamik Das, Additional Director, Dept. of Fisheries, Govt. of West Bengal. Dr. Sarkar urged fish farmers and fisheries officials to report disease incidences in aquaculture at the field level using the App. This will help improve farmer based reporting, get scientific advice and reduce disease losses, thereby increasing farmers’ income. ICAR-NBFGR has developed the App under the National Surveillance Programme for Aquatic Animal Diseases, funded under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana by the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India. Over 50 fish farmers, fisheries officials of West Bengal and other stakeholders attended the programme.
