A two-day training course on 22 October 2023 “Promoting psychological well being among children” was organized by Skill Development Centre, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), under the aegis of Directorate of Extension Education. A total of 54 Anganwadi workers attended this training.

Dr Tejinder Singh Riar, Associate Director (Skill Development), highlighted that emotional well-being of children was as important as their physical health. Good mental health enabled them to grow as versatile and healthy adults, he added.

Dr Prerna Kapila, Course Coordinator, threw light on nutrition interventions to achieve optimal growth, development and health.

Dr Tejpreet Kaur Kang, Professor, Human Development and Family Studies, emphasized on inculcating the values of respect and love for family; and respect for religion, justice, honesty and self discipline.

Dr Prachi Bisht, Scientist, discussed law and regulations for protection of young children. A visit to Early Childhood Care and Education centers was also arranged, where the participants had interactive session with Dr Ritu Mahal.

Dr Asha Chawla, Principal Scientist, discussed the management of psychological issues of Anganwadi workers.

Dr Rashmi, Extension Scientist, highlighted the importance of play among children.

Dr Seema Sharma, Professor and Technical Coordinator, dwelt upon significant role of teacher-child relationship in influencing social and emotional development of young children.

Dr Deepika Vig, Technical Coordinator, explained that parents needed to become the role models for their children as they learned by imitation and observations.

Later, Mrs Kuldeep Kaur proposed a vote of thanks.
