The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, currently hosting its Inter-College Youth Festival that commenced on November 01, 2023 in the PAU campus, entered its fourth day today. The festival that celebrates youth and its unlimited channels of talent is being held under the stewardship of Dr Nirmal Jaura, Director Students’ Welfare (DSW), PAU. In all, students from the constituent colleges of PAU, namely, College of Agriculture (CoA), College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology (CoAET), College of Basic Sciences & Humanities (CoBSH), College of Community Science (CoCS) and College of Horticulture & Forestry (CoHF); along with College of Agriculture, Ballowal Saunkhri, and Institutes of Agriculture (IoA) at Bathinda and Gurdaspur, participated with great gusto in the events scheduled on Day 4 of the Youth Festival.

The day was dedicated to the conduct of Virasati Vangiyan (Heritage Events). The heritage competitions were held in five categories: Ennu banauna, Naale bunna, Mitti de khidaune banauna, Chikku banauna and Peerhi bunna. The Student Home, PAU, where the events were held, appeared colourful with bright threads, tassels, wool, trinkets, clay and decorative heritage stuff used for making toys and other heritage items that were prevalent in the days of yore.

The Chief Guest of the day, Dr Ashwani Bhalla, Deputy Director, Higher Education, Punjab, seemed mesmerised by the beautiful handiwork of students, who, he said, were artisans and craftsmen in their own right. He appreciated the student participants and their In-charges for their dedicated perseverance in showcasing the rustic talent of the students. At the same time, he applauded the DSW for organizing the Heritage Competitions under the Youth Festival banner, as this helps in keeping traditions, art and culture alive.

Dr Nirmal Jaura, DSW, shared that heritage competitions not only add a distinct flavour of nostalgia, but also help to sustain our heritage and acquaint the youth with the rich tapestry of culture and heritage that Punjab boasts of.

Dr Jaswinder Brar, Coordinator, Cultural Activities, PAU, and Dr Vishal Bector, President, University Dance, Drama, Music Club (UDDMC) and Associate Director, Institutional Relations, PAU, steered the events smoothly.
