The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has inked a pact with Baalak Industries Private Limited, Mandi, Himachal Pardesh, for the commercialization of PAU fixed Dome Type Family size Biogas Plant, having capacity from 1 m3/day to 25m3/day technology. Dr AS Dhatt, Director of Research, PAU and Sh Rahul Sharma, a representative of the firm, signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), as per which the University offered non-exclusive rights to the firm for manufacturing PAU fixed Dome Type Family size Biogas Plant within India.

Dr Gursahib Singh Manes, Additional Director of Research (Farm Mechanization and Bio-energy), and Dr PPS Pannu, Additional Director of Research (Natural Resources Management), PAU congratulated Dr Rajan Aggarwal, Head, Department of Renewable Energy Engineering for the commercialization of this technology which has been developed by Dr Sarbjit Singh Sooch, Principal Scientist, Department of Renewable Energy Engineering.

Dr Aggarwal and Dr Sooch explained that the construction of this type of plant was easy with the design being suitable for all regions of the country. The single digester of this plant may be designed for any rated capacity from 1 m3/day to 25 m3/day. The cost of this plant was 60 – 70 per cent as compared to the cost of other conventional model biogas plant (floating drum biogas plants), they added.

Dr Khushdeep Dharni, Associate Director, Technology Marketing and IPR Cell, stated that the process of taking technologies from lab to field was being accelerated by promoting technologies among various stakeholders.
