The Department of Microbiology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized a three- day training on “Self-employment and Income Generation through Mushroom, Biofertilizers and Natural Vinegar Production’ at Akalgarh, Ludhiana under Rashtriya Kirshi Vikas Yojna (SCSP). A total of 30 trainees benefited from this training programme.

Dr Priya Katyal, Microbiologist and Dr Keshani, Extension Scientist (Microbiology), trained the participants in naturally brewed vinegar production from different fruits and sugarcane crop.

Dr Pratibha Vyas, Assistant Professor (Microbiology), and Dr Suman Kumari, Assistant Professor (Microbiology), apprised the participants of the uses and benefits of biofertilizers in agriculture.

Dr Shivani Sharma, Mycologist (Mushroom), demonstrated winter varieties for mushroom cultivation. The participants, who were enthusiastic to learn new technologies, were also provided with registration kits, brewed vinegar, consortium biofertilizer, mushroom spawn, compost bags, and water and food testing kits each.

Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Director of Research; Dr Shammi Kapoor, Dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities; and Dr Urmila Gupta, Head, Department of Microbiology, appreciated the efforts of the department.
