Institute of Biotechnology, PJTSAU has prestigiously organized a one day dialogue programme on “Identification and utilization of novel genes of value and relevance for improvement of crop varieties suiting future challenges to Indian agriculture” on 2.9.2023 at university auditorium, PJTSAU, Hyderabad. The programme began with inviting the dignitaries Padmashri Dr.E.A.Siddiq, Honouring Professor, IBT; Dr.M.Venkataramana, Registrar, PJTSAU; Dr.P.Raghu Rami Reddy, Director of Research, PJTSAU; Dr. Ch.V.Durga Rani, Former Professor & University Head (Genetics and Plant Breeding) and Director (IBT) and Dr.C.V.Sameer Kumar, University Head (Genetics and Plant Breeding) and Director (IBT) on to the dais. Dr P. Raghu Rami Reddy, DR, PJTSAU offered welcome address to the gathering in which he stressed on the dire need to explore new genes and incorporate them in cultivars through appropriate molecular tools so as to fight back the challenges of climate change. Dr.M.Venkataramana, Registrar, PJTSAU spoke about the rapidly increasing population and the necessity to produce more from less in order to feed the present as well future generations and combat malnutrition.

Padmashri Dr.E.A.Siddiq, Honouring Professor, IBT actively took part in the entire event and offered his valuable suggestions and recommendations for shaping the Indian agriculture to climate smart ready. Five technical sessions followed by a concluding session were conducted in the event with chair and speakers hailing from various national and international institutes. The speakers delivered interesting talks on various topics related to utilization of novel genes for diversified and sustainable agriculture in important crops. Honorable members (Board of Management), PJTSAU; university officers, PJTSAU; present and former Vice Chancellors of universities, directors of ICAR institutes, scientific staff from national and international institutes and state agricultural universities, industry representatives, and post graduate students of PJTSAU (GPBR) participated in the event. The programme intended to enlighten young scientific fraternity regarding facing the challenge of climate change via utilization of novel genes in related species and ended with vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Ch.V.Durga Rani, Former Professor & University Head (Genetics and Plant Breeding).
