As a part of nationwide campaign on Parthenium management, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ferozepur organized a farmers’ awareness camp on ‘Integrated management of Parthenium hysterophorus’ on August 18, 2023. The programme was organized under the umbrella of Punjab Agricultural University and ICAR ATARI Zone 1, Ludhiana. Around 50 progressive farmers of village Akku Maste Ke and adjoining villages participated in the programme.

Dr GS Makkar, Deputy Director (Trg), KVK Ferozepur extended a warm welcome to the farmers. He said “the objective of this campaign is to generate awareness among the masses for the management and eradication of this abnoxious weed”. As the health of human, animals, plants, and environment are interconnected, therefore integrated approach is necessary for management of parthenium, Dr Makkar added.

Dr. Simranjit Kaur (Asstt. Prof., Plant Protection) shed light on the harmful effects of parthenium and its management through community approach, uprooting, release of Zygogramma bicolorata, broadcasting seed of competitive plants and through weedicides. She also shared information regarding the integrated pest and diseases management in paddy and basmati. Dr. Munish Kumar (Asstt. Prof., Animal Science) shared important tips regarding tick management in animals, rearing of milk animals and goats. Dr. Anand Gautam (Asstt. Prof., FM&PE) shared information regarding paddy straw management through crop residue machinery. Distribution of free literature on agriculture and exhibition on various PAU recommended technologies were the other major attractions at the programme. At the end, Sh Jasbir Singh, Farm Manager, KVK Ferozepur proposed a vote of thanks.
