To commemorate the adoption of Hindi as the official language of the Union by the Constituent Assembly of India on 14th September, 1949 and to encourage all the employees of the Institute to do all their official work originally in Hindi language The inauguration ceremony of Hindi Chetna Maas (01-30 September) was organized in Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation , Dehradun on 01.09.2023

In this ceremony, veteran writer and senior journalist of Hindi language, Prof. Aseem Shukla  was invited as the chief guest. Prof. Shukla enlightened all the listeners with his insightful speech as well as inspired them to work loyally towards Hindi.

Expressing his views on Hindi Day, he said that neither English Day is celebrated in England nor any language day in any other country, but Hindi Day, Hindi Fortnight or Hindi Chetna Maas is celebrated in India. It does not mean that the purpose of the Government is only to celebrate, but the purpose of the Government behind this is that we should not be free from our language, but should be connected to our roots, because the one who is separated from the roots gets destroyed. Hindi has come from the cottages of saint poets and not from royal courts, so we can say that Hindi cannot be separated from our life. Highlighting the importance of mutual interaction between Hindi and Indian languages, he said that Goswami Tulsidas ji has been the leading litterateur of this linguistic tradition, who did an unprecedented work of connecting the whole of India through Awadhi language.

In his address, the Director of the IISC, Dr. M. Madhu, said that more than 400 languages are spoken in India, yet the place of Hindi is special among these languages because it has to develop progressively by including words and forms of other regional languages. He called upon all the employees of the institute to do their official work originally in Hindi.

About 50 scientists, officers and employees of the headquarter and regional research centers participated in the inauguration ceremony.

The program was conceptualized, coordinated and conducted by Shri Ashutosh Kumar Tiwari, Deputy Director (Official Language) of the Institute.
