ICAR-NBSSLUP Regional Centre, Kolkata in collaboration with ICAR-CRIJAF organized Awareness cum Training Programme on Enhancing Production in Jute Based Cropping System through Efficient Nutrient Management on 22-23 March, 2023. at ICAR-CRIJAF campus, Barrackpore. The main objective of the training programme organized under SCSP was to create awareness among the SC farmers for scientific, judicial and smart use of plant nutrients for enhancing the productivity in jute-based cropping system. In the inaugural session, the Chief Guest Dr. Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR – CRIJAF, Barrackpore highlighted the importance of judicious selection and application of nutrients in jute based cropping system for sustaining the system productivity while maintaining the soil health. He asked the farmer to adopt new varieties and judicious application of fertilizers to harness the potential yield of jute varieties and maximum profitability in jute farming. Dr Kar also stressed that the framers must adopt proper water management techniques to enhance the utilization of fertilizers and other nutrients.
Dr. B. N. Ghosh, PS and Dr. T. Banerjee, PS, ICAR – NBSS & LUP, Regional Centre – Kolkata also appreciated the effort of ICAR-CRIJAF for organizing such an important training for the farmers in collaboration with NBSS & LUP, Regional Centre – Kolkata and addressed the farmers for sustainable use of natural resources particularly soil and water for maximum profit from jute based cropping system adopted in West Bengal. Director, ICAR-CRIJAF and scientists of ICAR – NBSS & LUP, Regional Centre – Kolkata distributed CRIJAF Multi-Row Seed drill and nail weeder to the farmers for line sowing and mechanical weed management of jute. Dr. S. Satpathy PS and coordinator, SCSP welcomed the dignitaries, guests and farmers and Dr. M.S. Behera, PS and Nodal Officer, SCSP, ICAR-CRIJAF highlighted the objective of the training. In the technical session the scientists deliberated on nutrient management in jute based farming system for higher income and sustainable agriculture, important soil characteristics in jute based cropping system, soil nutrient management in jute in West Bengal, role of compost in INM under jute based cropping system and nutrient management through resource conservation technology. The farmers also visited the field and museum to know about the latest technologies on jute farming. More than 100 farmers and SHG members attended the lectures on the theme of the training and interacted with the scientists during the training programme.
