A group of 50 students of B.Sc. (Agri) course including 10 students of M Sc. (Biotechnology) and three faculty members from Maharishi University of Information Technology Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh visited at ICAR-CISH Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on 24th May, 2023. Dr. Naresh Babu, Principal Scientist briefed about the institute’s activities and technologies to the students. Shri Arvind Kumar, ACTO explained about improved varieties of the fruit crops like mango, guava, bael, jamun etc and other production technologies. A scientist-student interaction session was organized. Students were made aware of present situation and challengers of Horticultural production. The role of soil nutrient and water management, precision farming protocols, abiotic stresses, insect and disease control measures, post harvest practices, value addition, other secondary horticulture was also discussed. Crop diversification was given importance during the interaction. To enhance farmers’ income, scientific initiatives of diversified fruit crops in non-traditional areas of subtropical region were discussed. During field visit, high density plantation of mango and guava, rejuvenation of old orchards was shown. Successful vegetable cultivation in protected structures and open fields was also discussed. The importance of soil and tree health management along with water conservation was disseminated. Laboratories of biotechnology and fruit processing were also visited. Dr. Naresh Babu (Principal Scientist) and Shri Arvind Kumar, ACTO coordinated the field visit. Dr. Dheeraj Yadav, Faculty member proposed vote of thanks for the visit.
