A group of 27 farmers and Horticulture officials from Bilaspur district, Himachal Pradesh visited the ICAR-CISH, Lucknow on June 22, 2023. Orchard visit was arranged and Scientist-Farmers interaction meeting was held in the Institute. Farmers enthusiastically participated in this interaction meeting; they were sensitized about production, improvement, protection and post harvest value addition technologies. Farmers were motivated for adoption of high density planting system for mango and guava to enhance productivity and profitability. During the interaction farmers raised questions on gummosis, mealy bug rejuvenation nutrient deficiencies, bagging, processing. Hindi literature on scientific aonla cultivation, canopy management in high density guava, disease management thrips management and bael products was distributed. Importance of soil and tree health management for quality produce was discussed in detail. Institute developed mango harvester was also demonstrated. Farmers also visited the processing laboratory and detailed discussions on pulp preparation, preservation and preparation of value added products were held with Dr A. K. Trivedi, Principal Scientist. The role of genuine planting material and development of mother blocks for raising nursery was also discussed. Dr. Naresh Babu (Principal Scientist) Dr. Tarun Adak (Senior Scientist) and Mr. Arvind Kumar (ACTO) coordinated the visit.
